The last two years I have worked really hard on writing this music in addition to recording the entire project from my home studio. At the start on this journey, I had very minimal recording resources so this EP is truly an adventure of moving step-by-step and taking life as it comes.
Writing and recording began in the middle of the woods surrounded by trees and birds where it was inevitable to have birdsong make its way into the tracks and into the creative process. I listened to them as they listened to me churn through takes as I carved out the music of the moment.
Over time, things unfolded as the music took form and led to tracking drums in an old High Falls home. Perched in the trees above us, a majestic bald eagle gazed across the adjacent farm fields.
There were such a variety of experiences. Overall, the writing and recording process was a beautiful path filled with a vast array of human experience entangled in the shaping of this music. This led to the title of the project.
I have many people to thank along the way…
I am incredibly grateful for the contributions of the multi-talented, Mark Reynolds. Mark’s contributions included mixing, mastering and production. This music would not sound this way without his brilliant sound design, as he knew exactly which parts to encourage and highlight.
I am grateful to the musicians that contributed to this project. Jeremy Truitt, thank you for your masterful drumming and musicianship. Adding drums to the music took it to a complete different level. Jeremy was quick to learn the songs and had well thought out ideas, which he executed on seamlessly in the studio.
Thanks to Ben and Caroline for contributing on bass and flute as well as being solid comrades in a few performances over this last summer. You guys were beacons of light in the process of writing, recording and performing.
Thank you Tara Goozee Mason and Allyson Tomsky for contributing viola and violin.
A few more on the list: Thank you Sean Willett for making this amazing drawing for the album art. Check out more of his work, you’ll love it. Thank you Harrison Basch for lending drums microphones to record with in his majestic High Falls home.
Thank you friends and family for your continued support and reflections throughout the thick and thin. I love you all.
Finally, thank you to my loving partner, Lindsey Buckley, whose support throughout every moment is absolutely huge in my life. She has endured every small nuance of my process, every ridiculous thought or doubt and seen me through each evolution of this project. I love you.
“The Dream of Life EP” is a precursor of a longer album to come down the line. These 3 pieces of music are a glimpse of a lengthier project, so keep an eye out for updates for the LP. Music videos are in the works too, including collaboration with @lindseyerinluna.
Listening on all streaming services including Spotify, iTunes, etc. coming soon.
Thank you everyone!
SO MUCH LOVE.
Evan
